Just a typical HOT summer day in Houston. It had been awhile since I had shot here, and I was in the neighborhood. It is always fun to take pictures at EZ-7, whether in the classic ditch, or here in the new park. The bright open area, the deep black and blue colors, and there always seems to be individuals that capture my attention with their skating skills or style. Today's highlighted skaters are Justin Smallwood, Trevor and Seneca Garcia. Thanks for keeping me occupied and making my business my pleasure on this road trip!! |

As it often happens, I was just at the right place (Wind-N-Wave Surf Shop) at the right time and was invited along for what is a typical summer night for the local surf / skate rippers in Corpus Christi. These images, captured in less than an hour, show the talent, stoke and simple desire to have fun that I find so endearing in these young kids. There are FAR worse things they could have been doing while waiting for surf...! |
These images were captured at the legendary ditch at EZ-7 in Houston, Texas. Sponsored by The Surfhouse Surfshop and dozens of other skateboarding and accessary companies, this was the 22nd annual running of this grassroots, old-school skate jam. With entrants from four to forty years of age, this backyard, family oriented location is the perfect setting for a day of great skating and friendship. Props to Mike Money and all those who helped make it happen. This was, by far, the biggest and most successful Jam ever, and a good time was had by everyone there until the last rays of sunlight left the Houston skyline. |

These images were shot at the new public skatepark near EZ-7 in Houston, Texas. Just an ordinary fall Sunday. Skaters of all ages and backgrounds, along with a troupe of BMX high flyers. The bikers taking a break from the indoor ramps at the nearby Dirtwood ramp park. On days like this, there is always something to see, someone to watch. A new trick being perfected, an old one made fresh in a different place. Meanwhile, new friendships are being forever forged, and old buddies are staying young. |
| EZ-7 The New Park These images were captured at the new park at EZ-7 in Houston, Texas. The locals are getting it dialed in now, and judging by the crowd, this was a good call by the city parks department. Lots of kids, lots of families, plenty of smiles and action all around. |
EZ-7 The New Park and The Legend These images were captured in Houston, Texas. |
EZ-7 The New Park (July 31, 2005) These images were captured in Houston, Texas. |
EZ-7 Old School / New School These images were captured in Houston, Texas. Old School meets New School as the new, prefabricated metal skatepark is completed at EZ-7 |
Skating in Houston (May 14, 2005) These images were captured in Houston, Texas. Red Army Co sponsored a "Storming the Trenches Ditch Series - held in three places in Texas. In Houston, it was held at EZ-7. |
Skating in Houston (April 16, 2005) These images were captured in Houston, Texas. Just a random, typical skate session. One of the locals from EZ, Colin N. |
Skating in Houston (March 24 and April 2, 2005) These images were captured in Houston, Texas. Another couple of typical days at this laid back, and now recognized (by the city parks department) historic skate spot. |
Skating in Houston (March 20, 2005) These pictures were shot in Houston, Texas. I happened to be in town for a TGSA fundraiser and stopped here for some diversion. It just so happens the Gravity Skateboard Demo Team had similar ideas. So, for the second day in a row I got to shoot these very talented skaters - on a wildly different terrain. |
Ingleside Skatepark Opening (March 19, 2005) These pictures were shot at the skatepark in Ingleside, Texas. This was the offical grand opening of Texas' newest top-rank skatepark. In attendance for the festivities was the Gravity Skateboard Demo Team. The turnout was amazing and everyone was stoked seeing these guys and girls rip it up. I could only shoot for a half day before I had to race up to Galveston (for a TGSA photo shoot) and these are the images I walked away with. A big "thank you" and "congratulations" to Rose and everyone at the park for making me feel always so welcome there. |
Skating in Ingleside (January 23, 2005) These pictures were shot at the skatepark in Ingleside, Texas. Eric Bratten and a group of skaters based in South Padre contacted me from an organization called S.P.I.T.S. (South Padre Island Texas Skateboarders). They are fundraising to build a skatepark in South Padre and asked if I would take some shots that they could use for promotional purposes (INFO HERE). These are the resultimg images from that afternoon. |
Skating in Houston (January 22, 2005) These are shots from a legendary skate spot in Houston. Those who have been there know where it is. Those that don't...well, having been a skater for 30 years, I am still hesitant to divulge good skating spots to the general public. Some things never change. I was fortunate to catch some terrific action on a very random day. Seeing Will Taylor jump the bayou was something that was worth the drive from Corpus. Dude has some serious huevos !! |
Ingleside Skatepark (December 28, 2004) A typical holiday day at the new park. To all the skate groms that walked up to me today, welcome to the G-Spot. |
Ingleside Skatepark (December 20, 2004) Tonight was one for the Texas skating history books. Over 100 skaters coming out to inaugurate and break-in the newest, and possibly BEST, concrete skatepark in Texas. Beautiful bowls with tile and coping, great street skating areas, and an amazing run area with multiple walls, transitions, bowls and verticle. A rippin good time was had by all at this "sneak peek" session. The park officially opens in January. It was wonderful meeting the proprieters and builders and being made to feel a part of something very, very special in the Texas skating scene. Thanks Rose, Mike, Willie and everyone else I met tonight. Personally, I can't wait to get in that bowl with a new stick that Santa is bringing!! |
Wind-N-Wave Skate Ramp (December 14, 2004) Unlike the last time I shot the local crew skating, this time it was COLD out - with the temperatures hitting the low 30s later on in the evening. It was too cold to shoot for too long, but in the 30 minutes I was there, I captured these images. This wont be the last time I make a pilgrimage to this ramp for skating shots (and some ramp time for G) |
Portland Skatepark (August 4, 2004) These images were captured during a HOT summer morning at the Portland skatepark in Portland, Texas. Along for the fun were Nathan Floyd, Shane Wiggins, Robert Hall and Nicole & Danielle Dodson. We were later joined by a couple more skaters, but essentially we had the place to ourselves - due to the heat. This was the first time I had been to this park. In fact, this was the first time I had been to ANY skatepark in about 25 years. It was good to skate a bowl again !! This won't be the last time I make this short excursion... |
